The concept for this bench was inspired by the atolls Emma visited while circumnavigating; low-lying coral islands formed over millennia by subsided underwater volcanoes. A nod to the deceptive subsurface, a push to question what lies beneath. Atolls are some of the world’s most remote, isolated tropical islands. Tuck through a narrow reef pass and enter a calm lagoon, shielded solely by shallow reef from the open ocean swell. A salvaged tanbark sailcloth cushion pairs perfectly; harkens back to the era of exploration, the era when cotton and hemp sails were bark tanned to extend their lives.
